Creating Awareness Through Video: NKH Crusaders

We recently partnered with NKH Crusaders, an organization dedicated to supporting families and advancing research for Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH), a rare condition affecting fewer than 500 individuals worldwide, by creating awareness through video.

Although NKH Crusaders has been serving this community for over a decade, they had yet to incorporate video storytelling into their work. Their Executive Director, Kristen Archibald, recognized through her work that the most impactful way to raise awareness around NKH wasn’t through statistics or medical language, but rather through the voices of parents and families.

Using Video Storytelling to Build Awareness

NKH Crusaders hosts an annual conference that brings together families, researchers, and medical professionals from around the world. With such a small global community, these moments of gathering are incredibly meaningful, and this year we helped them make the most of that opportunity.

Rather than filming the event itself, Kristen wanted to use the conference as a storytelling opportunity. She coordinated bringing six mothers into a quiet, dedicated space to share their stories on camera. In between sessions, while emotions were present and conversations were still fresh, they stepped in front of the camera and spoke about their families, their journeys, and their hopes for the future of NKH research.

Why Intentional Storytelling Matters

For NKH Crusaders storytelling is critical to raise awareness about NKH, support fundraising efforts that directly impact research, and inspire continued attention from the medical and research communities. Most importantly, these videos are about ensuring that these families and their experiences are seen and heard.

Kristen and the team at NKH Crusaders will be using these videos as case studies across social media as well as in conversations with researchers, grant giving organizations, new donors, and medical professionals. If you’re working with an organization where the people you serve are your best advocates, let’s chat and discover how creating awareness through video can help you achieve your goals.
