Behind the Scenes with a Research Nonprofit Video: Commonwealth

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Commonwealth, a national nonprofit with a mission to make it possible for all people to build wealth, since 2020. Our relationship began during the pandemic, with editing only projects on the rise. These have since grown over the years to include full-service video production.

Recently, the nonprofit approached us to produce a video centered on a new initiative: Benefits for the Future.The program helps employers rethink workplace benefits in ways that improve employees’ financial security. It does this while also delivering real business value to employers. Instead of focusing on the operational details, we centered the video on why this work matters.

To do so, we combined an on-camera interview with Commonwealth’s CEO and co-founder, Timothy Flacke, with motion graphics highlighting important statistics, as well as thoughtfully chosen stock footage to represent the industries most affected by financial stress.

Translating a research-based project, like Benefits for the Future, can be complex, but by using a conversational tone in the interview with Tim and implementing motion graphics, we were able to turn a complex concept into a visual story that the viewer can quickly grasp and remember.

We filmed Tim’s interview and some b-roll of Commonwealth staff at their Boston-based office. With a little reorganization of furniture, we turned an open floor plan office into our set.

The final video was designed to work across in-person presentations and digital communications.
