How to Maximize Professional Videography at your Next Event

When I’m asked to film an event, I’m always thinking, how can we use this opportunity to create meaningful content that keeps working long after the event is over? So often folks are only thinking about immortalizing a keynote or creating a post-event recap, but event videography is also an amazing opportunity to create marketing videos that go beyond the single event.

Recently, I had the chance to do this at the Women’s Business League International Women’s Day Lunch — and what started as a single request turned into a bigger collaboration that benefited multiple businesses.

It all began when Jill Stoddard, a powerhouse keynote speaker, psychologist, author, and TEDx speaker, reached out. Jill asked us to film her keynote to incorporate into her existing speaker reel. Jill then asked the other two speakers if they wanted their talks filmed. One said yes and we now had two keynotes to capture! Amy Finegold, CEO + Founder of EVOLUTION self+style, decided she wanted to use her footage to create 3 stand alone thought leadership pieces of her talk to share on social media. These will help showcase what it’s like to have Amy speak at your event, and share her expertise as a service provider!

Capturing More Than Just the Keynotes

Since I had worked with the event host, Women’s Business League (WBL), in the past — creating their brand story and other marketing content a few years ago — I decided to reach out to the founders and see if there was anything else we could create for them while I was already going to be at the event. I pitched a few deliverables and that simple conversation led to an even bigger idea. Together with their marketing agency, Haley Denker Marketing, we came up with a concept that would serve WBL beyond just an event recap. We wanted to tell the story of the women who make up WBL — a look inside the community that would help potential members decide if this is the right fit for them.

We dug into the heart of what makes this community special and the opportunity to do so was perfect as so many passionate members were already going to be present at this event!

During the event we focused on filming real moments of connection among members. We also gathered sound bites from members to highlight the variety of industries represented. Post event, we used the beautiful space to interviewed co-founder & CEO Melissa Gilbo about what kind of woman joins WBL, what energy they bring, and how the community supports them.

Check out how all of those pieces came together for an evergreen marketing video:

The Power of Collaboration and Thinking Ahead

One of the things I loved about this project was how collaborative and efficient it was. By coordinating with the speakers and WBL, we were able to split the cost of filming and maximize everyone’s investment. It was a cost-effective way to create multiple custom videos while making use of a shared space and time. And of course, a big shout-out to Kayla for assisting on set that day; she was a huge help in making sure we captured everything smoothly!

In the end, this wasn’t just about filming an event. It was about using an event as a springboard to create intentional, lasting marketing content. We walked away with professional footage for speaker reels, testimonials from attendees for the speakers, and a community-focused marketing videos for WBL — all from a single day.

If you’re planning an event, whether as a speaker, organizer, or sponsor, I encourage you to think beyond the event itself. How could you use that gathering of people and energy to create content that tells your story? And who could you collaborate with to make it happen in a way that’s both impactful and cost-effective?

Events are incredible opportunities for content if you go in with the right mindset. If you have an event coming up and want to brainstorm video ideas, I’d be happy to chat.
