At Main Paige Media, every polished video is a team effort and Madeleine Philbrook brings her creative eye as video editor to every project she works on. A key member of the Main Paige Media team since 2020, Madeleine brings stories to life through thoughtful editing and a passion for meaningful narratives. We recently chatted with Madeleine to learn more about her background, her creative process, and what she enjoys most about her work.

You’ve been part of our team as a video editor for some time now. How did you first connect with Paige and get started working together?

I first started working with Paige in 2020. At the time, she was looking for a remote video editor to support her with extra post-production work. I had already been doing some outsourced editing for other video companies, and one of those connections recommended me to Paige. We really clicked creatively, and I’ve been working with her ever since!

What kinds of projects do you typically work on for Main Paige Media?

I mainly handle post-production and editing, especially videos with interviews where I can craft a compelling story. I think of it like a puzzle. I’m piecing together someone’s words to create a narrative that flows and connects. I really love creating videos that feel meaningful and emotionally resonant.

What sparked your interest in video editing in the first place?

It actually started back in middle school when I discovered YouTube. I was fascinated by all the fun, creative videos people were making, especially music videos and little personal edits. I started experimenting myself and was self-taught at first. By the time I graduated high school, I realized I was still editing and loving it, so I pursued it more seriously.

I went on to study Digital Technology and Culture at Washington State University Vancouver, where I picked up a mix of digital media skills, including video editing. Eventually, I gravitated back to what I loved most which is storytelling through video.

Do you have a favorite project you’ve worked on with Main Paige Media?

Two projects stand out. One was for the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The videos helped promote financial aid access and donor support, which felt incredibly meaningful. It’s fulfilling to know my editing contributed to a cause that helps students succeed.

The second was a more recent project for Wellest, a pelvic floor health clinic. We worked on both their main website video and a testimonial piece. It was clear that the content would have an impact in helping people better understand and seek support for something that’s often not talked about. That kind of heartfelt storytelling is what I really love.

What do you like to do when you’re not editing?

Hiking is one of my favorite things to do. I’m lucky to live in a place where beautiful forests, waterfalls, and rivers are just a short drive away. I also enjoy editing just for fun when I have the creative energy. Once or twice a year, I’ll put together a personal project.

Something else I really enjoy is volunteering at two anime and pop culture conventions: Sakura-Con in Seattle and Kumoricon in Portland. I help run contests and coordinate video programming, especially focused on video art. It’s a great way to stay connected to the creative community and give back.

What is something that has inspired you and has that influenced your work?

I’ve always been drawn to documentaries and still watch them regularly. They’re such a great example of powerful storytelling through real people’s experiences, which is very much what I do in my work. When I’m watching something and forget I’m analyzing the edits, that’s when I know it’s truly good. That sense of immersion is what I try to bring to the projects I work on.
