Some video shoots are all about people, but this one was all about the product. Over two days, we filmed two different types of videos for SQ Innovation, a company specializing in innovative drug delivery solutions, making self-administration safer and easier for patients. The videos included a product demo video and a patient experience video.
Day one of the shoot focused on a detailed product demonstration, while day two highlighted how patients use the device in everyday life. Let’s take you behind the scenes of day one, where we captured how this wearable medical device works.
Filming a product demonstration requires precision and control, so we created a clean, distraction-free setup using a white backdrop and an overhead camera rig. We made sure every frame was evenly lit, and we blocked out natural light to avoid changes throughout the day (yes, that involved taping up big black trash bags over the windows—whatever works!).
We worked with a hand model (who is also a nurse) to carefully walk through how to apply and use the device. Our actor, Barry, then modeled how the device is worn. Every shot needed to show how easy the product is to use, so we paid close attention to angles, lighting, and even the smallest details to get it just right. In the final edit, our wonderful motion graphics designer, Amelia Oon , will be creating custom graphics to help elevate the video and make the instructions crystal clear!
A well-run shoot is always a team effort, and the SQ Innovation team was fantastic to collaborate with. Leading up to the shoot they made sure we had everything we needed and on shoot day they prepped several devices for us to use for the demonstration.
Fun fact – one of the SQ Innovation team members turned out to be cousins with our cinematographer, Adrian Atwood ! We had no idea about the connection until he arrived at the office. Small small world!
With the product demo successfully wrapped, we moved on to day two, where we filmed a more lifestyle-focused video showing how patients use the device in their daily lives. Stay tuned for next week’s article for a behind-the-scenes look of our shoot for the second video.
